Anyone has experience successfully selling food products to restaurants and hotels in Nairobi (Kenya )? How was the process like, what would you have done better, what would you advice someone new to do?
ingia, ask to speak to the manager, and pitch your goods… si rocket science… show confidence or boobs
Apo sana akionyeshana izo zake lazima atapewa kazi
Unauza kuma
Suppliers for 4 and 5 Star Hotels and established you may not manage to compete with them because of quality and packaging, but start with procurement personel, uwaone ya macho, they will tell you the tricks and even the prices of your competitors.
Nilijaribu nikaona muoto kubwa sana wakati ya hii corona fake and washed my hands from dealing with hotels. Problem is you deliver on credit sasa uanze kufuatana na payment
Most Hotels work with 30 to 45 days credit period, you should always have that in mind.
Wakati ya corona it was fire bin fire, wanakulipa na nini na wamefunga?
He he he, I know, Corona messed me up while in that industry.

Thanks alot. What about restaurants? Do you know?
What food products? Fresh?
Processed products
You have to do alot of cold approaching. Expect a rough start up…those restaurants get approached so many times. You have to differentiate your services. Good luck
My friend had a lorry(canter) that he used to source potatoes from the farmers and deliver to restaurant around Nairobi Eastland areas. He was always stressed because many of the restaurants delayed pay and yet he was supposed to buy cash from the farmers. He was perpetually on calls asking for pay from hotel and restaurant managers.
The stress was too much and he just decided to quit that business.
So best option is cash on delivery.
Lol this will never happen. If you can sell goods on credit good luck. I know some lady who sells animal feeds. Anakuja anaangushia retailers. Retailers have to sell all her products so that she can be paid for the sold items. Hata supermarket mob hulipwa baadae. Ukifanya biashara mtaani lazima uwe na cash flow kubwa ya kuendelea ku supply while you wait for pending payments.
Do the opposite.Look for markets outside Kenya. This country is very strange especially if you are in a space selling undifferentiated products.
We develop medical technology and have clients as far as Myanmar.Infact we don’t even sell our product locally until we figure out international waters first because this environment is very hazy.
How will this work for a new entrant. I have no capacity to export at the moment
Any advice. I’m trying to sell them a product that will speed up their service delivery. Can I target my prospects better to increase chance of good start?
Most large hotels will already have big-time suppliers and doubt an individual can compete with them due to economies of scale. Not very sure about Small to medium establishments. The best advice is to supply fresh goods. Margins are better there
I’ll try go after restaurants and mid to small hotels for now
