Scourge of child marriages in northern Kenya. A shocking incident

A young Turkana girl, Nakiru (not her real name), from Lengima, Samburu North, has overcome a harrowing ordeal. At just a Grade 2 student at Lengima Primary School, her grandfather arranged for her marriage in exchange for dowry to pay his own bride price. Fearing for her future, Selina fled to Baragoi town where her life took a dramatic turn.
During the festive season, she met Veronica Nadome, who took her in. On Christmas Day, Veronica’s brother, Ernest Nadome, learned of her plight and immediately intervened. Enrolling her in Baragoi Primary Boarding School, he ensured her safety, provided supplies, and pledged to support her education to university.
As she thrives in school, one question remains: how many other girls like her are still waiting for someone to act?
