I doubt if anyone is going to do it out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s expensive, you know. What we need is a proper KEBS standard for the same, duly enforced by the relevant transport authorities.


We dont have any heavy manufacturing industries in kenya. So there is no expertise about safety standards for these things and certainly kebs is clueless about this. KCI, CMC and others like them are the only ones who have an idea and they are the builders so you cant expect them to regulate themselves.
In developed countries the standards are very high and are defined in a scientific manner. Sio kama kenya where policemen just look at seat belts to inspect.
For example, public transport vehicles have defined tilt angles and something else to do with moose test.
btw. Seat belts are only attached to the seat if the seat is strongly secured. If you look at personal cars made abroad you are unlikely to find one with a seat belt secured to the seat. Few seat belts go across the abdomen too.
Matatu construction here is generally very unsafe. Inafanywa kwa juakali.

Infact, some countries have banned that seatbelt across the stomach. A three point seat belt reduces the chances of you getting killed by a very large margin.

Initially, when the so-called Michuki rules came into being, they’d insisted on a three-point seat belt and a significant number of the first 14-sweaters to fit them had such. Somewhere along the way I think they realized how impractical it was since the belt was anchored on seats that tended to come off in case of a crash, rather than on the vehicle frame/body as with factory-fitted seat belts.

The transport industry is a good example of a case where government policy works against the majority. The buses you see our roads are poorly constructed with expensive and low-quality materials.
