Sarcophagus twins separation surgery at KNH

This is the 2nd of its kind in Africa. the first one was done in Zambia by Dr Ben Carson

mimi hushangaa how they are able to stay alert for 23hrs mfululizo while doing such a delicate operation.

EDIT: Further reading shows that the surgery was performed by nine paediatric surgeons, nine neurosurgeons, 10 plastic surgeons, 11 anesthetics and more than 30 nurses. They must have worked in shiifts cause that room can’t house all those guys at the same time.

i always thought a sarcophagus was a stone coffin how does it come in here?

Don’t blame him. Amesoma kwa hawa journalist wetu wote hawajui osungu across all media houses.

sar·coph·a·gus /särˈkäfəɡəs/
noun
a stone coffin, typically adorned with a sculpture or inscription and associated with the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Rome, and Greece.

Sasa tafuta if this term has any meaning in medical circles apart from this one.

sijapata any medical meaning so wacha tungoje madaktari

The doctors who did the surgery (Kambuni et al) are really old school. “Sacrophagus” is no longer used to refer to conjoined twins (as it has a ‘negative’ connotation i.e. tombs).

Conjoined twins show characteristic points of attachment and are classified according to the site of union:

-Thoracoomphalopagus (ie, joined at the chest, abdomen, or both) - 74%
1. Thoracopagus or xiphopagus (ie, joined at the chest) - 40%
2. Omphalopagus (ie, joined at the abdomen) - 34%
-Pygopagus (ie, joined at the buttocks) - 18%
-Ischiopagus (ie, joined at the ischium) - 6%
-Craniopagus (ie, joined at the head) - 2%

Others:
-Cephalothoracopagus: characterized by the anterior union of the upper half of the body. Single brain and heart are present and the gastrointestinal tracts are fused.
-Rachipagus: twins are joined back-to-back at any point, usually above the lumbar spine.

Asande. So the term is saCRophagus not saRCophagus as the entire media has written it?

Naona mshajibiwa. According to

http://nairobinews.nation.co.ke/life/my-babies-can-now-talk-after-surgery-says-mother-of-separated-twins-photos/

the twins were conjoined at the sacral region of the spinal cord.

hii sasa nayo ni mpya hata google ni kama hajui…

The term is “SACROPAGUS”…not SACROPHAGUS…

.

Might he be the same Ben Carson (R)
