Parent directory

Ideally all websites are just a folder. Directory is basically a folder. Let’s use kenyatalk.com as an example.

This website/web application is just a folder sitting on a server. The name of the folder is probably kenyatalk. Now inside this folder, there are a bunch of files and folders that are required to serve the site. i.e. so that when you visit kenyatalk.com you see content. This folder is called the root folder or the parent directory of this website.

Depending on the architecture used i.e. programming language and/or frameworks used, there are different structures. Most of the things that are constant are

  1. index.php file - this is the default file for websites made in php or on a php based framework. It defines the main ktalk layout and calls all the other required files required to serve your immediate and well as your next requests.
  2. A folder called assets - This contains 3 folders inside: stylesheets folder - contains files that define the color and styling of the website, javascripts folder - contains files that define the behaviour or transitions of the website and an images file - where all images relating to this website are stored. e.g. the logo
  3. There is probably a media folder - This contains user generated media content e.g. all the images and videos uploaded by all members on this forum.

Say that the website was not secure enough either purposely or out of lack of security knowledge of the site admin. Instead of seeing the website content when you visit a certain unsecured URL you are able to see the contents of the kenyatalk directory instead. Now to simply download media from this site, you would simply navigate to the media directory/folder and download the videos, images and any other uploaded content. You also have access to all media that did not belong to you e.g. sent via inbox that the admin may have not wanted you to access due to privacy or that you needed to pay first before downloading

The naming of the folders maybe a bit different but ideally the structure is almost the same for 99% of the websites even the more complex ones.

Offside kidogo; nataka kuchange folder yenye Kodi inaweka log files. At the moment inazieka tu kwa home folder, na already iko na folder inajiita kodi (hidden by default) but haitupi logs huko. I want to change it ipeleke kwa ndugu zake huko /.kodi/temp. Its creating alot of unnecessary clutter on my home folder… Nipe mawaidha Jemedari @Jazzman

Sina haja na log files anyway. So hata ikifuta ni sawa tu; else naeza iundia folder. Nidirect mahali nitaenda kufanya hio edit…

tafuta config file ya hio app,locate log file location alafu edit na text editor e.g. vim,ukimaliza save changes alafu restart app…word of advice,kama log file iko stored Kwa temp folder,then itadelete session ikiisha so there is no need ya kuchange location and plus nimeona its hidden
