1.When he 1st contested the Eldoret North seat in 1997, few would have given the young upstart any chance against one of the pro Moi heavyweights of the time known as William Saina but the young Ruto achieved the impossible and won.
2.During the last days of KANU rule, Moi intended to hand the entire Kalenjin constituency to his son Gideon in partnership with Uhuru.
Ruto made nonsense of this arrangement and made the Kalenjin constituency his own.
He made it clear yesterday how far he has come through his own effort.
In his own words ‘the son of a poor man who made it to the high table to sit with the son of the founding father of the Nation’.
Do you think that was an empty statement?
He has his eyes on the prize and he doesn’t expect any favours from anyone to achieve it.
He must be his own man and fight his way through against the established political dynasties.
If Uhuru thought Ruto would toe the line and start his campaigns when told to and stop when asked then he completely misunderstood and underated his deputy.

I sometimes understand Ruto’s worldview, including his looting. Politics is a dirty game, and when you join, you accept the dirt that comes with it. He must steal to compete successfully against established dynasties (specifically Raila), who have looted this nation for ages. I sometimes find it hypocritical when Uhuru and Raila fault Ruto for looting yet they are primary beneficiaries of looted public money. Ruto has to loot out of necessity to close that gap and that is why they aren’t happy with him. I don’t support Ruto’s activities, but I understand.
