Ruth Jebet, 50 million for patriotism

I look at this lady’s case from my personal view point. If I had the opportunity, I would do what she did. When you earn gold for Kenya, the country only gets bragging rights on the medal table and maybe some marketing for the country. The athlete gets the 1 Million prize money. Not much if you compare to available alternatives, both for the country and athlete. Our constitution allows for dual citizenship. I’d rather it remained the way it is. She ran for Bahrain where they give ksh.52 million equivalent as Prize money for Olympic gold medalists. If she invests the money in Eldoret, Iten, Kisuro or wherever she originally is from, No harm.

* Lornah Kiplagat switched allegiance to Denmark, won a few for them. Am sure she is of more use to Kenyans in general than she would be if she did not.

 • Bernard Lagat did the same for the USA and I feel he is better off too.

But, I don’t find it appropriate that, from Rio, she took a flight to Nairobi where she paraded the medal. I suspect it’s because she feels more appreciated here. You know, it’s nice to be rich and famous among those who know you than somewhere where everyone is on average richer and most probably racist. In Bahrain, all they want is world recognition. She should have focused more on making sure the Bahrainis do not have an excuse to not hold up on their end of the deal by flying there first and making sure the 52 mil is where it should be first. Either-way, she made a good business decision. This comment sums it all up for me.

Not everything you can equate to money. Kama alikua Kenya and was mistreated or didn’t get a chance that is perhaps a valid reason to leave. But kama everything is okay chukua tu hii milion ya Kenya. My patriotism says stick to your country but the kiuk in me says take the money. Ngumu sana. It’s like being told uuze mtoto wako for 100 million cash, utauza ama utakataa?

Talking for pissing…I will take a dump on it for much less. It boils down to…how much is your citizenship worth? Apparently nothing.

That is life changing money for real… I would also take it.

52 million is early retirement. You can decide to never work for the next five years and live off the rent from investments…like a boss.

Patriotism has never put food on my table, f-uck Kenya and give me my goddamn money.

Patriotism never paid any bills.
Tell Rudisha to go to Grand Regency, eat to his full then tell them he’s a patriotic Kenyan who won a Gold medal therefore can’t pay.

I think sio 50 milli pekee yake.1st to switch allegiance kwanza kuna kitu kama 100milli for that alafu sasa prize money for each gold.Na kama wewe ni mjanja you can always negotiate for a much much more higher mulla. So fúck patriotism

Exactly, now that she has won a Gold for Bahrain her handlers should up the ante and demand more for her. Unfortunately for her, she’s open to exploitation being young and naive.

…fuyck patriotism. Who eats it!

This debate is getting tiresome.

What’s the difference between her and other professionals e.g doctors, nurses, engineers who go abroad looking for better opportunities? None at all.

In fact, she has single handedly contributed more to the local economy than 10 diasporans combined

Boss, am shocked this would even be a consideration.

There is a reason she flew in to her shaggs and not to Bahrain.even with all the money in the world without an identity ur very poor at heart and ull live miserably.wacha arudi huko and in a few yrs utaskia serikali Saidia …

If the government cannot give good support and good cash rewards then sioni shida I would do the same hata kama ni 10 m ama 5 m napata instead ya 1 m

Hehehe…this reminds me of a video I saw on youtube. Dude is coming out of a supermarket with his wife. Then he is approached by a rich man with a briefcase full of cash ati, “Can I buy your wife for the day. Maybe even have sex with her.” The guy is shocked at first, But when he sees the money and counts it mninja anaambia bibi aende na yeye akamuliwe halafu arudi ile githaa anataka.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
