A senior Russian General in charge of Nuclear Protection Forces in Moscow has been killed by a bomb hidden in an electric scooter, Russia’s investigative committee said.

Lieutenant General Igor who was chief of the Troops of Radiological , Chemical and Biological Defence , was killed on Tuesday outside an apartment building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow.

Russia’s TASS news agency reported, quoting a law enforcement official, that the explosive device “had a capacity of some 300 grams in TNT equivalent”

A source within the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) told Al Jazeera it was behind the attack.
“We claim our responsibility for the bombing of the head of the Russian Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces, Igor Kirillov,” the source said.

On Monday, Ukrainian prosecutors charged Kirillov in absentia with the alleged use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine , the Security Service of Ukraine said, according to the Kyiv Independent.

In October, the United Kingdom sanctioned Kirillov and the nuclear protection forces for the use of the toxic agent Chloropicrin on the battlefield.

Chloropicrin is an oily liquid with a pungent odour known as a choking agent that was widely used during World War I as a form of tear gas.
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) specifically prohibits its use.

Russia has said it no longer possesses a military chemical arsenal but the country faces pressure for more transparency over the alleged use of toxic weapons.
The Ukraine SBU said it had recorded more than 4,800 uses of chemical weapons on the battlefield , particularly K-1 combat grenades , since February 2022.

Kyrylo Oleksiiovych Budanov is a Ukrainian military leader who has served as the Chief of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine since August 2020.
Budanov previously served as the Deputy Director of one of the departments of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

Budanov was born in Kyiv on 4 January 1986.
He graduated from the Odesa Institute of the Ground Forces Academy in 2007.
Following his 2007 graduation, Budanov started a military career in the Special Forces of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

In 2014, he took part in the war in Donbas where he was wounded several times while engaged in a number of classified special military operations as a member of the elite Unit 2245 of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate trained by the CIA.

In 2016, while still a Lieutenant Colonel, he reportedly led a Special Forces Unit in an amphibious raid on Russian-occupied Crimea to plant explosives at an Airfield.
Budanov’s unit was ambushed by a Russian commando unit after landing and was badly wounded but killed several Russian soldiers before retreating to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
He was taken to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the USA for specialized treatment.

On 5 August 2020, President Zelenskyy appointed Budanov as head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.

A spokesman for Ukrainian military intelligence said in 2023 that there had been more than ten assassination attempts on Budanov.
On 4 April 2019, Budanov’s car was blown up by a Russian with documents in the name of “Alexei Lomaka”, who planted a mine, but it detonated prematurely.
The attacker and the sabotage group that were supposed to blow up Budanov were detained

In November 2023 his wife , Marianna Budanova, was poisoned with unspecified heavy metals , probably from poisoned food but she survived.
He wears a pistol at all times and his Kyiv Office is stocked full of weapons and military gear.

No Putin isn’t next. We’ve always known where he is at most times … more than his own officials. Actually I believe Ukrainians have thrice asked for permission to assassinate him and urs been flatly denied. It wouldn’t help with much at the moment. Actually his tactical disabilities and lack of judgement in the proper, is very helpful. You don’t want another effective and efficient “Putin” now in charge .

  • the military and security organs don’t trust him and his agenda and cabinet picks ( Musk , Ramaswamy , Kennedy , Patel and company ) will only make matters worse.
  • his planned tarriffs on everyone ( including potential allies in Europe , Asia , Canada and Mexico will only trigger retaliation.
    ( US manufactured Goods and Services are expensive and are struggling on world markets ).
  • the USA will fall even further behind as his policies wreck Markets and Innovation.

He died when his F-16 crashed while repelling a Russian missile attack.

No worries bro. His plane didn’t crash though. It was a contested airspace with Russian Lancets battling starkillers ( basic drone warfare) and also the SU Felons launching globe bombs from a distance. This is what Moonfish was really after… the glide bombs. Low attitude, steep climbs and back again. Also Shooting them down meant operating with stealth and managing Radar cross section signature ( RCS). Stealth can only be achieved if you manage RCS properly otherwise your goose will one day be cooked , eventually . The SU-57 Felon fighters or drone operators didn’t even know he was there. The F-16s are old but still very much good. But the Patriot missile batteries operators did and with little experience with it, they got a bit anxious and trigger happy. Ukraine lost the soul of its air force that day. Dude was fearless . Loved beer too

5th Generation Russian and Chinese Fighter Planes are highly OVERATED …

They fly fast , carry formidable firepower over great range …
But are few , expensive , difficult to maintain and have low operational readiness and sortie rates …

My personal favorite fighter is actually the 4th Generation Swedish JAS 39E Gripen …
