Rivers Can BE Moved. Waititu is Right

I do not often agree with how Waititu carries himself but the truth is rivers can and have been moved before. He has a point
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABg_VxxHtoA

I don’t agree with him but to be honest I could see his perspective ni venye tu it comes from him and his wordings hence the negative reception. It really was not a stupid thought. If a so called “expert” had the same viewpoint the reception would’ve been much different.

sasa kila mwenye plot akiamua kudivert river kutakaaaje hiyo idea ni mbaya

So kila mtu asongeshe vile anataka?

ni kama kuambia Mungu asongeshe hewa

They can only be moved when there is available space & only if is for the common good.

Tuletwee river Nile ama Amazon.

If it came from someone like Ndii right now it would be a healthy intellectual national debate.

Where do you divert such waters? And who will pay?

Nakumatt Ukay Supermarket in Westlands, Nairobi has been indefinitely closed for business after goods of unknown value were washed away from the mega store’s shelves following heavy downpour on Saturday evening.
Photos of the flooded store circulating on social media showed items such as detergents, toiletries and diapers, among others, floating on flooded floors of the supermarket.

The supermarket’s Regional Operations and Strategy Director, Thiagarajan Ramamurthy, issued a statement on Sunday morning saying they had temporary suspended operations at their Ukay branch.

“Arising from the flash flooding challenges experienced in parts of Nairobi and specifically at the Ukay Centre shopping mall in the Westlands business district, on Saturday night, Nakumatt Holdings, wishes to confirm the temporary suspension of operations at Nakumatt Ukay Supermarket,” Ramamurthy said.

As a result, Nakumatt Highridge Supermarket, will now operate, as a 24-hour outlet, to meet the immediate customer needs within the Westlands, Parklands Business districts and their environs.
The supermarket operates on a round the clock basis on two floors, centre ground and Mezzanine floors.
The downpour which, started at 5pm, resulted in a heavy traffic build up on most city roads.
At least ten cars parked outside the mall were submerged although no injuries were reported in the incident.

On this topic of riparian land he mentioned the Frank Wright Lloyd designed falling water house.

Rivers can be moved, only if the river ecosystem is thoroughly understood. It can be diverted if it’s only a short distance away from it location without divertng the water usage or it could cause a disaster elsewhere.

The Amu and Syr rivers provided the lion’s share of freshwater flowing to the Aral Sea in a system that covered 1.5 square kilometres and supporting some 35 million people. In the 1960s then the Soviet Union began diverting the two rivers that flow into the Aral Sea, the Amu and Syr, for irrigation to grow cotton and wheat. Now the Aral Sea is almost completely gone.

Ecologist refer to the action as one of the greatest recent ecological disasters created by humanity’s greed, hubris, ignorant politics and total lack of compassion—for other humans and for the environment.

The local climate changed, no longer regulated by the large body of water. The Aral Sea, like all great water bodies and their associated vegetation, provided a buffer for seasonal temperature fluctuations, buffering the winter storms from Siberia. The climate took on an edge and became unruly. With a vengeance.

“Salty contaminated dust blew off the exposed lakebed, estimated at about 40 million tons every year and settled onto fields, degrading the soil. It turned into a public health hazard, causing respiratory illnesses and cancers. The dust was reported as far away as Belarus, 2,000 km to the west, and in Pakistan to the east”.

Waititu hata hafikirii mbali hivo kama kwa hio youtube video… Waititu anafikiria ile design ya kuchimba na ka-hoe na foko jebe. " Kamtaro kadogo tu maji iede. Haraa!!"

Ama kama mahali kuna nduma hivi, directing river water for irrigation…

I know Nairobians have short memories but surely you do recall the insane deluge that hits the city kukinyesha proper, where do you divert those floods short of building canals like in Florida?!

Or these super expensive under city tunnels in Tokyo:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Area_Outer_Underground_Discharge_Channel

And even in Florida you can’t construct near the river or the cannals. You have to keep 75 feet away! Or 22 meters away.

http://www.srwmd.state.fl.us/index.aspx?NID=90

They even have divers who clear the cannals of stolen cars to keep them clear and clean. So lazima tuanze na river kwanza before anything else. The flood waters in Nairobi apana mchezo.

Where will we move them to?

India wants to divert the Ganges. Cost = £207 billion!

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2016/may/18/india-set-to-start-massive-project-to-divert-ganges-and-brahmaputra-rivers

Cost to environment= infinite, immeasurable!

To alleviate drought, not protect corruptly acquired property.

Yes rivers can be diverted, dammed etc, but our problem here is not the river,it’s the impunity by people in power that we are fighting.

Its perfectly possible and has been done , the longest masterpiece is the South–North Water Transfer projects of the Chinese Grand canal

Where does Waititu want the rivers diverted to??

So genius where would Ukay or that other idiot on langata road diveted the river too ? We all know rivers can be diverted thats how all dams are built ! even if there was space which there is non the amount of money would be the same or more than than building cost !

Ooh please…yes rivers can be diverted but where have you heard of a river being diverted to protect personal property…esp flats or malls? Diverting a river to deal with drought or even construction of a dam happens…but not to protect some looters private property

What kind of arrogance is this that rivers can be moved? Gtfoh! This is the same arrogance that is causing destruction of the environment leading to drying up of rivers.
YT2 is a thug and I regret voting for him.
What if the invaders of Maasai Mau Forest use that same argument and say that the trees can be planted elsewhere?
