Even lingala music has subgenres. From Soukouss, which like Loketo, is super fast, to rhumba franco style, which is generally slow. Akina Ferre came up with their own style that is a fusion of many other styles, including foreign ones. All the same, lingala music is great.
What I like about congolese music is, it is complex music.
I guess it comes down to the notes or rhythm of the song… While some have pulsating drum beats that want you leaping onto the dance floor, like akina Loketo… others have soulful rhythms that string at your senses… Still, I would not consider it slow. There is always a background percussive element in sync with the trot of a horse.
Unless you are comparing it to the other simpler western pop music or jamaican ama hii ingine ya akina tommorow land

Lingala Music is a highly refined African Art form akin to Jazz.
It has many variations that appeal to different sections of the population.

Lingala gives me incredible nostalgia bana. Memories of the 90s nikiwa likkle boy waking up to KBC blasting those soulful melodies. It’s a genre that grows on you as you discover more better records. The production is usually top notch na the musicians very skillful Kwanza ukiimagine most of those older compositions were recorded live no fake computer music.
@Baby_Panay Must be a Gen Z philistine who swears by konshens or masika
