Unga is released to supermarkets and within hours it sells out. Panic buying. Mtu ananunua ya 3 months. They should allow people to buy only 2 packets a person. While some shops force people to buy items worth 500-1000 to buy unga.
Anyway can’t relate to this shortage, I never buy unga from supermarket or shops. When I briefly stayed in Eldy, learnt the habit of buying unga from the source that lasts you for a year. Between Oct-Nov-Dec after the harvest, the town if full of truck taking maize to cereals. 90kg bag is bought at 3000 at cereals. Middle men buy it at between 2000-2500 a bag from those who don’t want to line up on the road for days. Sasa mimi utumana 10 bags for myself and siblings. We each get 2 bags, it goes to the posho mill and then it sent here. The whole year we have enough unga at a fraction of the cost. Same to rice from mwea, beans, ndegu and all cereals is stocked for the whole year. Nikujipanga my friend.
