Pension is paid using a formula (available on the treasury website) and is proportional to the no. of years worked and final salary. The monthly pension can be more than half the final salary.

In many parts of the world pensions are barely sustainable because the money put in is not equal to money put in plus the investment made with that money. In the case of Kenya pesa ya NSSF ilikulwa wakati was moi na bado inakulwa and not invested very well. Youngins (40 and under ) mtashtuka. Jipange mapema

Civil servants are not paid pension from NSSF but from the consolidated fund. It’s non contributory, but civil servants who were below 40 years of age (i think from two years ago) are now contributing to their pension.
