Resolving the chaos on Kenyan roads once and for all (A woman's take)

Hi darlings i have finally found the solution to fixing chaos on Kenyan roads. i was just discussing this with my hubby the other day.

So there are three problems which should be addressed namely; ignorant drivers, unruly pedestrians and corrupt cops.

(1) ignorant drivers - am talking about fools who acquire DLs without necessary qualifications like they just buy the document this was even exposed on BBC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=papUXpLXf8I

Those drivers should be fined 1 million Kshs + a year in Kamiti + permanently banned from acquiring DLs and the institution responsible for awarding the DL be shut down and fined 100 million Kshs.

am also talking about unruly drivers who flout traffic lights and signs, overlap and overtake as if they urgently need to use the loo. also Nduthi and ma3 cows who overtake from the left. these drivers and riders should be given two strikes and fined kshs 100K upon each strike. Third strike and your DL is revoked for 5 years. There are so many cameras around the city. Offenders should be easily identified and their number plates stored on a database so the moment you commit traffic offence you are marked even if you manage to escape the scene. So you will receive an email and/or a letter in the box summoning you to the police station. Failure to appeaar and there is a warrant of arrest for you!

Also ALL drivers and riders should report to their driving schools every year for assesment.

(2) unruly passengers - am talking about fools who want to cross the road when the light is clearly green (go for drivers). then it causes traffic coz drivers have to wait for the donkey to cross. also not using the dedicated pedestrian crossing or footpatth like let me just use the main road??! its annoying honestly. if caught they should be fined 10k or serve a month.

(3) corrupt cops - standard procedure when stopped by cop should be he/she explains your offence, books you and either accompanies you to the police station or givesyou atimeframe in which you should report to the police station.

gava must make Body cams mandatory for every traffic cop. the ‘off’ switch on these cameras should be disabled so every encounter is thoroughly scrutinized. That’s it coz i believe traffic cops will only extort you if u are deliberately ignorant and/or stupid.

i’ll not speak about unroadworthy vehicles coz that should be common sense. 1 million kshs fine if found to be in violation.

guys i know the fines are punitive but thats the only way to fix the chaos. if we can keep crazy drivers off the road we can save a lot of people.

buttco…

No.2 …they are called pedestrians…not passengers.
You raise some valid points but most of those (vehicles/ bodas) that flout traffic rules are owned by rogue cops or people with connections hence untouchable.

No. 1 is BAD/POOR road design. This form a basis for all the rest.

wow thanks alot when i become president i will make you my deputy.

connections will be useless since the fines/imprisonment will be irreversible.

i disagree. kenyan roads are up to par in terms of their design. the main issue is ignoraat drivers and pedestrians.

Wow thanks alot…give that position to your hubby.

ok but i was really grateful that you corrected my mistake of saying passengers instead of pedestrians.

i will award you with some lucrative tenders when i become the president. since u dont want to be my deputy…

Both of you are partially correct. There are some bad apples. There are some good roads designed and constructed to international standards.

Then there some roads whose Design may or may not have been at par. However the final product is not at par with any local or international standards.

Ngong Road,
Outering Road
that part of what used to be airport south road
Mombasa Highway
Limuru - Maai Mahiu a design from Italian Prisoners of war.
Bad design excludes non motorised traffic
Bad design encourages impatient drivers.
Bad design ignores dedicated bus stops encouraging “beba shuka”
Bad design ignores safe pedestrians crossing.

which kenyan roads are these you mention. Comb me please.

Have been to Ngong road, Lenana interchange-Karen Roundabout- towards Galleria? How is that even a road? The contractor should be grabbed by his balls/tits and swung around several times.

i agree poorly designed roads should be overhauled but how long will that take?

the quickest and most efficient solution would be to place signs indicating bumps, diversions, sharp turns etc ahead + working traffic lights and street lights all over those roads. pedestrian crossings and footpaths should be implemented too. these seem less complicated to put up compared to overhauling the entire road.

hefty fines and prison sentences will discourage drivers and passengers from being ignorant.

These are some of the most stupidly and dangerously designed roads. Whoever did it deserves to be surcharged and jailed for wasting public funds. These two need to be overhauled like yesterday.

Leave the comfort of Nairobi and go to Kanduyi, a town where heavy commercial goods vehicle park by the road shoulder - the same shoulder where there are signs of 50kph. Net effect ? Police pounce on you afew kilometers ahead for speeding and even tell you hapo kuna zone ya 50 lakini obstructed by “turelas”

You forgot another major problem
WOMEN

Definitely the biggest problem esp those one’s born in muchatha wakapata tu pesa Nairobi Waka nunua tududu na harrier they still behave umuchatha thinking grown men and women should bow to them because they can afford cars type ya @TrumanCapote
