Joseph ole Lenku: Non-executive chairman of SASRA

Former Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku finally got a soft landing in the new round of public appointments which saw Jubilee allies and ex-MPs rewarded.

Mr Lenku, who has since declared interest in Kajiado Governorship in next year’s General Election, is the new non-executive chairman of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority for a period of three years. He was appointed by Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed

Former minister Gideon Ndambuki was, however, the biggest beneficiary of yesterday’s appointments, landing at the wealthiest public pension scheme, the National Social Security Service Fund as chairman.

Former Cabinet minister Noah Katana Ngala also found his way back to public service. Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts Hassan Wario appointed him to the board of Kenya National Library Services for three years.

Former MPs Wilfred Ombui (North Mugirango Borabu) and William Omondi (Kasarani) were appointed to the boards of Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation and Lake Basin Development Authority respectively.

Kenya National Union of Teachers Chairman Mudzo Nzili replaced Secretary General Wilson Sossion at the National Hospital Insurance Fund board in the appointment made by Health CS Cleopha Mailu.

University of Nairobi Professor Bernard Njoroge was appointed to sit in the National Irrigation Board (NIB). The appointment was made by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Others appointed alongside him are Dr Malachy Imana (chair) and Hussein Fayo, Caroline Gatwiri, Beatrice Mbingi, Lalakipani Kambaki and Edwin Irungu as members.

The President revoked the appointment of former chair Dr Sammy Latema and members Dr Francis Gichuki, Pacifia Wekesa, Isaac Maiyo, Teresa Mushira, Anthony Mwaura, Ezra Odhiambo and Prof Jasper Imunga. Water CS Eugene Wamalwa dissolved the board last month following a row over suspension of senior managers. A court order however overturned the decision.
In a strange twist however, seven of the NIB members whose appointments were revoked yesterday—Latema, Maiyo, Gichuki, Wekesa and Mushira—got new appointments through the same gazette notice that fired them

The President’s relative Victor Pratt is now chairperson of Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three years. Andrew Vohora replaced celebrated athlete Paul Tergat at Brand Kenya. Tergat’s appointment at the board was revoked by the CS Adan Mohamed. Senator Gideon Moi’s wife Zahra was appointed to the Tourism Research Institute board as a member.

Ole lenku was still under full pay. So it’s not like he was suffering. Of course Jomo knows his votes are needed in 2017. Ngilu made a mistake and started to publicly chastisize prezzo. Otherwise she would have gotten a soft landing too. I mean how better to split kalonzo than maintaining ngilu and purchasing Alfred mutua ( who has been shopping for a bidder).
