Yes it is true. I changed mine this year and they have been in there since I got the car circa 2013. You only change the plugs once they are gone.
My car’s manual suggests a maximum of 30,000 miles when using genuine toyota plugs.

i change mine the moment the white part starts turning brown…my reasoning is zinaweza kuwa zimechomeka ndani…i stand to be corrected
Better safe than sorry. But always try to have them changed regularly on the mileage-change point and not before. Hiyo ni kuwaste chwa.
