From this video its clear many kenyans do not know the difference between cycling lanes and pedestrian footpaths. Some even think this infrastructure is meant for hawking and selling goods-just another market and even parking of cars.
I blame this majorly on govt. The govt has got access to many media stations in Kenya which they can use to sensitize the public on its use and the consequences of breaking laws such as parking cars, hawking etc on the pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes. In addition its clear that this infrastructure has not been marked (as Cycling and Pedestrian )to easily identify the functions of each and thus most kenyans have got no idea of its use. The govt is also not enforcing law and you can even see some of these lanes have been taken over completely by hawkers, buildings and as parking for cars.
These are just excellent hardware with corrupted software. The software must be changed right from the school to the general public if these things are to work, without that it will just be pretty useless and a waste of time and money.
If someone took their sweet time seriously,maybe things would ease up…
