The Government is rushing this thing and is not really interested in public participation. Why? Is it to demonstrate to IMF ability to generate money or is it greed to eat haraka.
This is essentially public land being given to private hands in the name of PPP. This is totally wrong not to mention that we know from past experience that the politicians and a few connected people will win these land allocations and the tenders to build those houses.
Allocation criteria remains unclear. We don’t want well connected civil servants giving themselves this house and then renting to the rest of us.
Tribalism related to number 3. We don’t want a scenario where everyone contributes and then 70% percent of the houses in Nairobi go to Kikuyus because they voted “correctly”. This is another case for Federalism btw. We know from past experience that this is what happens.
The government has not explored reforms on land and the building code and related issues before saying we give them money. The Government should be innovative and let private sector do this via REITs and other investment vehicles - people want to invest in real estate but stupid regulation sets a high barrier of entry.
It’s not tenable for employers to match contributions. This is the dumbest shit in the world
they should 1st guarantee everyone who will be deducted by force/law a house , then they should allow them to sell at any time they want not just after 7yrs,so that the person retiring after 2yrs of contribution what do you want him to do na hana job , allow him to sell get his cash back and make afew thousands and he retires in peace.
Lol wapi? That may happen if the Government defaults and we get Zimbabwe level inflation otherwise hakuna. As long as kikekuyu vote rigging exists, wrong voting patterns will always thrive in this country.
As it normally happens, the government will take kijiji opinions seriously, and hold a cabinet meeting to discard the idea of a housing fund. Speaking of which, Kazi ya Housing Finance ile bank ni gani?
