R$D and innovation

To the medical fraternity, tell me, is there any serious R$D and innovation going on in your field done in +254? I am an engineer, I met a doctor friend of mine yesterday, as we were going on about a general discussion, I put across a point that there is no serious research going on in the country, be it in institution of higher learning or anywhere of a sort… The guy quickly interjected with fury stating that I should stop the blanket statements as there is a lot going on in medical field on the above subject. Of course I had to recant my statement arguing that I was talking about engineering, which is true.

So, nauliza Tena, hapa KE, what’s going on in medical in regard to R$D and where would you rate yourselves in comparison to first world countries.

Disclaimer
This is not an ego-centered discussion; I am simply interested in the facts and understanding what is happening on the other side.

Proper R&D requires alot of financial support from the government. Since independence there is no president who has been serious about it. Just forget about it unless things change by electing a completely different government with new faces and brains that know the importance of R&D.

Wewe mwenyewe other than repairing machines zimetengenezwa kwingine what have you done to advance engineering? Ama kazi ni kutembea ukijisifu engineer na kuongea kizungu ya mapua na helmet kwa kichwa vile vitu ziko out of specifications in the process mkitengeza vitu zinaharibika same day? At least sisi accountants tunajulikana for reaping where we never sowed na hatufichi. Nyinyi na lawyers are worse. Kwanza lawyer atashinda the whole day quoting what King George said while condemning a chicken thief in 1850 as if wizi wa kuku iliisha hizo enzi. Why not tell us how some liguru ruled in a chicken theft case in Khumusalaba in June 2024?

I am currently an R$D engineer, I have designed a lot of things I can’t mention them here. But the one I can mention that is of no importance, is the phone charger which have been using, I did designed it myself.

I agree.

Which year were you born? And if what you are saying has an inkling of truth in it, how comes you are unaware of what your peers are up to?

What are you try to say exactly. Be forthright.

That wewe ni nongwe who possesses questionable academic credentials that cannot stand scrutiny. You lack the ability to defend your papers before subject matter specialists. Hauna habari of any forum where you can engage your peers on subject matters you purport to be well versed in. If you don’t agree with me, please inbox your research papers starting with Ile ya undergrad na usikuje hapa na ufala ya eti we are anonymous.

Nongwe.
This is a science and technology section, ndio maana nimepost hii hapa. And why should I prove myself to you? Because umeamua tuchukue hii njia, send me the garber files or manufacturing files showing the ICs umetengeneza, I will gladly share mine after umetuma yako.
If you are smart as you are purporting to be, then you should know kutusi mtu doesn’t make you better than them.

You are the first expert I have met who isn’t proud to showcase his prowess and work.

@Nigga_with_attitude The Truth is not much is being done mainly because of a bad culture we have as country. Most people are not scientist as the culture is one of believing in other things than being seekers of scientifically backed facts. However that should not stop you from innovating. Keep trying and keep learning how to do it more efficiently even with little or no backing. Let the greater good guide you and not merely the clout and money that comes with being an innovator. All the best

I would say Kenyan medical fraternity do lots of research, though they are limited in terms of infrastructure.
They ought to start writing peer reviewed papers (which I’m sure they can stun the world of medicine), so that we, on the outside can quantify their work.

We are a product of rote learning. Anyways, i wonder how many engineers are at a place like Safaricom ?, my curiosity is informed by the fact that, Safaricom doesn’t have any proprietary hardware, to warrant them to have engineers.
Apart from Civi Engineers, of which they can contract, for the purposes of erecting masts, all other technical stuff should be handled by Higher Diplomas, Diplomas, Certificates and certification guys.
