How well does web development and app development pay?
Depending on skill level the sky is the limit. I concentrate on my own online ventures which are more lucrative than dealing with PMSing clients. If you are very good in Java,PHP,Ruby or Python getting an hourly rate of $40 is not something out of the ordinary right here in 254.

Isn’t this the complete package as in both front end and back end?
I am in development, back end. Front end/UX dev you need to be verse in HTML/CSS and those fancy javascripts frameworks.

Why not.Well I can read and write decently HTML,CSS and Javascript code. Front end development is easier and pays less. If you are starting up you cant jump to development languages before learning the same kiasi. The beauty of it all is that you can learn on your own for free with all the free tutorials online and a vibrant dev community online willing to hold your hand.

With the video tuts you will be surprised that even with basic grasp of English (apparently you are better than that) you can do wonders. Coding on its basic form use class three English.
