Military is a very essential element in a country
It is. although we have bigger issues at the moment like a collapsing economy.
i think its a good move rather than having KWS,Kenya police etc each maintain their own planes.They were ineffective and open to abuse.We all remember when Garissa attack happened,it was alleged the chopper to fly Recce squad was not available because a certain police boss had used it to elope with a kunguru to the coast.Plus it cuts on costs of training pilots,spare parts and fuel.

They could have hired one of the many choppers in the country or put those guys in a commercial flight.
The plane was not available because it was not available. There was an inquest and the airwing commander was cleared of any wrongdoing. The allegation about coastal honeytrip originated from an old photo social media photo that the mainstream media streamed with strange gusto. This commandant was made a scapegoat to cover up for the obvious indifference of the millitary who could easily have airlifted the recce commandoes using their own helicopters. Hell, even the statehouse has a helicopter at its beck and call.
The plane in question was a Cessna Caravan belonging to the Kenya Police. It was used to shuttle family members to vacation in Mombasa where it was parked.
When the attack happened former minister Nkaissery and the Inspector general where the first people to use the chopper. The other chopper was an Mil-17 decom and the other was doing police work huko baragoi.
The Kenya military cannot interfere on domestic matters hence why police is used. Even during the attack a Kenyan tank was dispatched which was used to provide perimeter security. And the AP and other police officers faced off with the terrorists.
But all that has changed. With all assets under a single body they can be effectively used for all different scenarios and more choppers and aircrafts are on the way.
