Licensing from CAK will help along with a convincing proposal of what you’re offering. You will then have to approach mobile networks operators to get a platform to operate. There are fees payable to CAK and a number of documents that are needed for registration.
A few years back I had such a need and I approached several telcos. The most helpful ones were agents from Safaricom Business. In Airtel it seems that all agents tend to be moody 24/7 so don’t even consider.
You can opt for a shared or an individual number where the alerts will come from. After that, you are told how the revenue will be shared. At my time, SMS was to be charged Ksh. 10 and we would split in a certain ratio with Saf ([SIZE=2]mostly you will get 0.3 of the SMS charge, aim to charge Ksh. 10 or more per SMSs[/SIZE]). You have to enter into a contract with them and explain what these SMSs are for and agree to the revenue sharing ratio. At my time, they did not request for any sort of licenses or business certificates maybe because I explained it well. So, approach Safaricom Business…Funny enough I ran into them that time while walking from Essar/Yu offices. Expect lots of back and forth communication till you get allocated a number.
You can also try Advanta but the revenue sharing ratio will be worse since they still have to use telcos to actualize this.
