The cost of port services at Mombasa and Lamu is set to increase from yesterday.
Trucking fees at the Port of Mombasa will rise by 400 percent from Sh3,000 to Sh15,000, while clearing agents will now be required to pay a new annual licence fee of Sh38,700.
This move will drastically increase the price of imported goods, push up the cost of doing business, and ultimately pass the burden to consumers through higher prices of basic commodities.
It threatens to fuel inflation, weaken regional trade competitiveness, and place additional strain on manufacturers, traders, and ordinary Kenyans who are already grappling with a high cost of living.
