This is why its a priority now to dual the current public Mombasa-Malaba road which is at tendering in different separate phases. Also in a few days the bidding will start for a separate, parallel private road on the same Mombasa-Malaba road where people will pay at the toll stations to use the 6-8 lanes express highway (autobahn) by PPP.

When KeHNA invited bids for private roads in Kenya, the media didn’t get the details, they are so engrossed on politics that the basics of journalism has been forgotten or not practiced anymore. One of the private roads will be a whole new elevated highway on Thika Road since already that current “superhighway” is experiencing alot of traffic jam during peak times. All the real estate projects boom within that corridor eroded all the gains it was to achieve. The media simply reported that Thika road will be privatized and ofcourse people complained. Its simple build 3-4 level interchange linking to express elevated highway. Let motorists decide themselves to use the slower free public road below or they pay 100-200 to use the toll-private elevated road to make it in town in 20 mins.
