We know that our politicians can be very creative when it comes to capturing free media attention or sympathy.
The most common are the numerous assassination plots that have been made regarding JaKuon, but we also have Millie Odhiambo’s car-jacking in which she called the cops with the phone that the robbers were supposed to have stolen. Then there’s the Juja MCA, Samuel Gitau, who magically jumped out of the boot of a moving car and was ‘found’ on the roadside in Kinale.
The case of Chege Fresh is remarkable in that his phones and personal effects were found intact, and the car that was ‘riddled’ with 2 bullets(!!) had no traces of violence. The fate of his personal weapon, if he is a carrier, is unknown.
He has accumulated considerable undecided votes coz of the stunt and the ensuing publicity. Had you heard or knew of him before?
I bet few talkers did.
And now?
Almost everyone in Kenya knows who Chege fresh is.
He stands a good chance in the nominations.
Ni kweli, this incident created name recognition that no cheap launching would have generated.
However, stunts backfire very easily if there’s just one weak link in his chain of deceit.
For example, all it would take is an OCPD in Kabete or Narok to reveal traces of scheming, or CID to trace phone traffic and discover that there was constant coordination throughout. Kwani kidnappers can shoot a Pradso, snatch the occupant and leave his phones and other property lying inside the vehicle?
Millie Odhiambo’s story unraveled because of the amateurish alibis she had once the cops took the case seriously.
PR stunt to make his competitors look bad and therefore get votes from gullible voters. Reminds me when Jakuon’s armoured landcruiser was sprayed with AKs somewhere in Isiolo in 2002(?) campaigns only to later confirm he was travelling in a chopper.
When a shiny-eye decides that it is cheaper to pull off a fake kidnap than to pay for 10 billboards or vehicle branding. Problem is that the effect is very short-lasting. Most media are now reporting the story with unmasked skepticism.
Well, in a surprising turn of events, a number of Kabete residents have accused the aspiring Jubilee MP of staging his kidnapping to get sympathy vote in the upcoming Friday, April 21 2017 party nominations. Considering the escalating political temperatures in the country and a similar case where a Ruiru MCA aspirant reportedly staged his kidnapping, a section of Kabete residents who spoke to TUKO.co.ke in anonymity hold that Chege pulled a similar move to attract pity from voters.
According to the statement that this Chege Fresh aka Fresh off the press fellow gave , as read by Philip Kirui - OCPD Narok the "kidnappers ordered the aspirant out of his Prado and fired on his vehicle ".
Why would a kidnapper fire at the unoccupied vehicle , and even after disappearing on Friday and appearing on Sunday he was not ready to talk to the press at least tell the world what happened. Hii ni upuss mtupu .
Huyu jamaa anachukua waKenya kama mafala. Even the cops cannot help but laugh, having guarded the ‘bullet riddled’ Prado and its contents through the night, until it was time to discover the kidnap.
