"Saddam Hussein was captured by U.S. forces on December 13, 2003, during Operation Red Dawn, near his hometown of ad-Dawr, close to Tikrit, Iraq. He was discovered hiding in a small underground bunker.
The hiding spot was roughly 6–8 feet deep and just large enough for one person to lie down. It was covered with a styrofoam lid and dirt to blend into the ground, with a small vent pipe for air.
Inside, soldiers found two AK-47 rifles, a pistol, food, and about $750,000 in cash."
