Matiba deserves it. The one person who stood up to Moi.

How? You must be really young or willfully ignorant. Will await your response.

Peasants can’t get compensated for the many times they have been arrested unlawfully and thrown in @pamba cells escorted with kicks and state of the @Art slaps.

Moi tried to buy him off. He said no and walked away and started to campaign for multipartism. In fact his walking away marks a turning point to the fight for multipartism. Cant remember anyone who had done this before him.

Please go and reread Moi’s era, his brutality, the champions of that cause at that time and report back.

As an aside. Matiba was part of the thieving oligarchs in that era. He presented a clear and present danger to Moi’s thieving ways and reign and had to be dealt with. The end result was Moi’s fingerprints for those that went against the grain. Many never lived to have their day in court like Matiba. Wish him well though.

Nothing to read about Moi era. Thieving they all were. But no-one had stood up to Moi before this.

Matiba, I will repeat, never stood up to Moi. He ran against him in 1992, but never stood up to him.

What happened before 1992 between Matiba and Moi? Seems you have forgotten something!! Remember Matiba was a minister.

Raila was at that time a small party operative over shadowed by the likes of Muite, Orengo, Kiraitu and Imanyara.
The narrative that he fought and suffered more than others during the second liberation is a lie perpetrated by those who advance his larger than life to cover for his violent brand of politics.

At the time ( fight for 2nd liberation), Raila was overshadowed by hid dad. He did suffer more than the others since he was jailed for 6 years. Muite, Orengo, Kiraitu and Imanyara were not tortured like he was.

You want to imply that not even Koigi Wamwere, Rumba Kinuthia, George Anyona, Mwashengu wa Mwachifo, Masinde Muliro and many others never stood up to Moi? Matiba was probably only fighting his own personal battle and ambitions and none on behalf of Kenyans. Nonetheless he is entitled to the compensation for the trouble the Government at the time put him through.

He was repeatedly arrested for engaging in clandestine activities like planning coups and not for fighting in the streets with cops for democracy like those I have mentioned.

Ksh504 million isn’t enough for what Njindo Matiba lost. At the time Matiba was by far the wealthiest living person in Kenya( was the first politician to use a chopper in his campaign) hence the paranoia by President Moi.
Other than his wealth, Matiba’s health paid the ultimate price, he suffered a massive stroke while in detention and no one cared to take him to hospital for medical attention.
Matiba’s suffering can make a grown man shudder in fear and wonder what would make a man bring such untold horror to another.

The fighting in the streets is an aftershock of the initial battles. This was the endpoint of the 2nd liberation and not the beginning.

I didnt imply that. For the people in power, Matiba was the first (or amongst) to say no to Moi on his face.

Matiba was a billionaire and ended up loosing most of his wealth because he had no powers to protect them like other wealthy political families. The 504m is just a small token compared to what he lost. His family will enjoy.

Wamalwa Kijana was the first to use a chopper

He did. It was Mariba and Rubia who came up with the saba saba rally. That is a fact that even raila states. He campaigned with Michael rubia in kiambu. Raila was junior to tose guys and was picked on by moi for running is dad’s errands and in '82 for treason alongside is dad as the dad’s errand boy
