Came across an interesting read on this business as I have always wondered how designer perfumes can cost 2K. Kwa wale wako kwa hii industry, hii grade 2 ndio imitation?
TIPS ON HOW TO TELL WHETHER A
DESIGNER PERFUME IS GENUINE OR FAKE
1)MISSPELLING
Check on the writings of the cover box.Truth
be told! Most of the knock off perfumes
come from Dubai,China and Arabic
countries.Look out for funny Arabic writings
on the outer cover.Misspells of designer’s
name for example Paco Robanne instead of
Paco Rabanne, "Channel instead of
Chanel.Be keen on the typography and
spillage of ink. This is usually a key indicator
of cheap design work and most definitely
knock off perfumes.
2)LID OR CAP
Is it real or fake? At times people have
crafted the art of imitation so it is really
hard for one to clearly tell whether a
designer perfume is original or not just by
the outer look…so here is another tip to tell
if it is real.Does the lid fit well? Try
removing the lid on and off
repeatedly. If it is authentic the lid will just fit
in
perfectly and effortlessly with minimal
resistance.Also
check for magnetic lids or caps. Most
designer
perfumes(though not all) have magnetic
caps for
example, Allure by Chanel,Terre
D’Hermes,Armani code
by Giorgio Armani …etc.If by any chance you
are
forcing the lid to fit in then most probably
you got
duped and bought a fake perfume.
3)BATCH CODE
Look out for a batch code not on the outer
cover box but at the bottom of the bottle/
spray. All genuine designer perfumes have a
batch code carefully placed at the
bottom. The real perfume box always has a
packaging
number which corresponds with the one on
the bottle. If you have a code scanning app
on your phone try and scan the code this will
enable you to get the manufacturer’s name/
country as well as the perfume’s shelf life
(expiry and date of manufacture). If it
doesn’t have a batch code at the bottom,IT
IS FAKE!
4)SCRATCHES AND MARKS
Carefully check on the engravings .Authentic
designer
perfumes should be luxurious therefore they
are crafted
by state of the art technology with utmost
care.If the
glass bottle has scratches all over or the
engraving is
poorly done be rest assured it is fake.Take a
keen look
at the liquid content ,if you notice some
particles or
things floating on top…it is definitely fake
5)POOR SILAGE AND LONGEVITY
One major indicator to determine whether a
designer
perfume is authentic or not is on its
capability to last
after spraying. If the smell wears off after
30mins or
1hr after spraying then it’s FAKE.Genuine
designer
scents last for a period of about 8-24hrs,It
should keep
you the whole day depending on how strong
it
is and whether it is an EDP or EDT…Other
stronger scents may last for a whole week.
6)PRICE
Just because a perfume is expensive doesn’t
mean it
is original but on the other hand if you hear
of a
Tomford,Chanel,Armani or Dior scent going
for
2000,2500,3500 or 5000 .mhh…you should
probably
think twice before paying for a “cheap
bargain”…Some of the low end cheap and
genuine designer perfumes include David
Beckham Intimately me,Elizabeth
Arden,Jaguar and Davidoff perfumes
ranging from 3500-6200…You’ll probably
come across terms like 1st grade,2nd Grade
or 3rd
grade,By any chance you hear such just
know it is fake
and the merchants are using grades as a
disguise of
fake.
