If Michuki and co. waited for courts and their processes to deal with mungiki, how effective do you think that route would have been?

If Uhuru had sat pretty waiting for the courts to deal with terrorists in order to save Kenya from the attacks, instead of undertaking taking serious deterrent measures, how would that have turned out?

If the government became diplomatic in dealing with hardcore gangs, where would we end up?

Despite outcry by human rights bodies about the injustices, lack of due process and the general conditions at Guantanamo Bay, why does it still exist as it is?

There is a reason why the state has what we call the legitimate monopoly of violence, and this is something Prof. Kindiki Kithure defended during his vetting this week.

H.E William Ruto has disbanded an elite squad, SSU majorly based on political and populist reasons, which in my opinion is a dangerous path. Any serious state under whatever circumstances would fight to protect the identity of members of its elite squad from exposure to terrorists and other criminal gangs that they might have aggravated in the course of their duty.

Ruto is now the Head of State and a time will come when he will have to make extremely difficult decisions on matters security. You may want to come here and argue emotionally but fact is, there will be a time when he will have no choice but to form such a squad, for the bigger good. Question is, if we persecute our officers for political expediency, when a time comes when we desperately need them to rise to the occasion and do very difficult things, will they be ready to?

I rest my case.

Naona kuna mtu anacheza na Machiavelli’s playbook. But one can play lion for so long before falling into a snare.
