Has anyone here ever applied for a patent? How did you go about it? What are the costs and how long did it take to get?
What do you want to patent…weka details na formulae hapa
I want to patent my mobile app idea before I do a presentation to investors
Just share the source codes here tuone kama its worthy
Hahaha unless all talkers sign a non-disclosure agreement contract I will post the source codes here.
You cannot patent an idea
He can patent the methodology
People can reverse engineer the methodology. The moment you patent an idea, you just gave away your secret. Better an NDA.
An NDA also works but it doesn’t mean they won’t steal your idea (in Kenya). You can patent the methodology descriptively but without revealing the exact technical detail. In Kenya, few respect intellectual property rights.
No vencap will sign an NDA, here is something, ideas on their own are worth nothing, execution is everything. By signing an NDA the investor will be precluding themselves from entertaining similar pitches even if yours doesn’t pan out, they will probably find a polite way of telling you to fuck off.
you are more important than the product, investors will only put in money if they think you can produce the goods even if your product is still a beta version, starting with a deficit of trust is not the way to go about it,you expect them to trust you with their money you can trust them with your idea.
However, if it is something that can be patented,go ahead and do it, you can patent the utility behind the app,not the app itself, then what you will be pitching is the patent and how to commercialize it through your app. You keep it I’m your head and open yourself to the risk of losing it all.
All the best. I don’t know shit about the process of patenting.
I would advise you just go ahead and build the thing. Even if you get the patent, which I highly doubt, it will prevent nobody from coming up with something similar. This is a very huge grey area.
You can only prevent people from stealing your source code, but not from creating a similar app in their own way. And this is very easy.
And as you’ve been told, you don’t patent ideas. You create the product or a prototype first.

i agree, he should just continue selling the idea, execution is more important
Unless it’s a very very rare design that you want to prevent from being copied, just start selling your idea…apps have that first mover advantage…
Google with all the manpower and cash have tried to develop chatting apps, social media apps but for some reason they are still behind facebook and whatsapp…
