In this day and age, why do you need a post office box to register a business?
Like who’s going to send a letter instead of an email or use courier services.

Gen Z detected.. too used to instagram businesses. A physical location is proof that you aren’t running a briefcase company, which is what all social media ‘businesses’ are.
Nobody cares about a letter, but it’s good to have a physical location where the money can be seen to originate legitimately.

I get your point. However, when was the last time you used the P.O. Box to send letters to companies. Even physical companies have emails. If you want to send them a letter (or package), you use courier services.
The courier service uses the P.O.Box. Also, you can’t have a credit card or debit card without a physical address. Something that even bank employees themselves don’t seem to understand.
Why are people confusing physical address of a business and post office box number?

It is the law. When you give P.O Box, you legally fall under Kenyan jurisdiction. KRA can squeeze your balls properly.
With or without P.O Box you still fall under Kenyan jurisdiction as long as you in Kenya.

Which courier service needs a postal address?
All businesses must have a registered postal address and in Kenya P.O. Box is the official address format. Some countries like the US use physical address ie building, street.
eg
Safaricom Ltd, P.O Box 66827-00800 Nairobi
Google PLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA, 94043
It’s another indicator that the business environment has evolved faster than the imaginations/expectations of the policy makers.

My case and point.
It makes no point in having a postal address if am not going to use it.
In modern times in Kenya, you don’t need a P.O. BOX.
It is not for you to use it. It is for KRA, kenya power, nairobi water, NEMA etc to use it to send you demand letters, bills etc. The govt uses the P.O. Box to communicate to businesses and citizens and that is why you must provide one. And FYI a P.O Box costs only 2k per yr, bei ya 1 gilbeys.
