Boss there is this position regarding our military planes that you constantly tell guys who are of the view that our fighter jets are archaic or they don’t stand a chance against f16 falcons, sukhoi su 35 etc. , that military planes can be upgraded, be outfitted with modern weapons, systems and technology. Let us take for instance the F-16. The first ones were added to USAF rosters in 1978 (same as our F-5Es and F tiger IIs, which are redevelopments of the earlier F-5A freedom fighter) and were supposed to be retired in 1999 but hata pia wao walikosa pesa. They underwent a programme called a mid-life upgrade where they were completely stripped down to remove fractured/rusted parts then rebuilt with new radars, A/V recorder, helmet mounted display, improved electronic warfare systems, GPS, new weapons integrations e.t.c therefore you end up with an aircraft that has parts of the old body, and none of the old interior workings and engines. That is how even the B-52 which is a 1950s aircraft, is still flying up to today and is to be retired in 2040.
The Jordanian F-5s that were bought were upgraded before they touched down here. They were upgraded to the M standard which gives it the internal workings of a newer fighter, but the body is still (in some parts) the old original aircraft that came from the manufacturer.
