I still hold the bragging rights. And am gonna exercise my rights till 30-Nov-2016.
You have probably heard of “monkey business”, the kind of business our very own old manki engages in. I want to educate you about the origin of the term.
Once upon a village in Nyeri, an old monk arrived and announced that he wanted to buy monkeys. He set the price at 1k per monkey, and asked the locals to collect as many monkeys as they can. He promised to be back in a week’s time. True to his word, he returned after a week and found the villagers had collected 500 monkeys. He paid cash and took the monkeys. He said his demand had not been met, and asked the villagers to get more monkeys which he will buy at 5k per monkey. He would return in a week.
Within the week, villagers managed to gather only 78 monkeys. The old monk came and collected them and paid cash, but not before promising to come back in a week for more monkeys at a price of 20k a monkey.
Week 3 saw villagers travel far and wide, but they only gathered 3 monkeys. The good old monk came and bought them at 20k, expressing disappointment that the villagers weren’t doing good enough in search of monkeys. He thus raised the price to 50k per monkey for next week’s business.
In the fourth week, locals desperately searched for monkeys, but none could be found. By day 4, they asked the gods to intervene. Intervene they did, because on day 5, six men arrived in a truck with a load of 581 monkeys. They said they had heard that old monk was buying monkeys and they didn’t want to miss out.
The village chief organized an impromptu baraza and the village heads decided that it was their opportunity to make good money. They would not watch as 6 men made over 40m right before their eyes. They had to get a cut. So, they convinced the men to sell them the monkeys at 25k each. A quick harambee was organized on day 6, and some good money was raised to buy 581 monkeys at 25k each. The money was given to the 6 men and they went back to wherever they had come from.
Day 7- the old monk didn’t cum. And he never came.
Probably but I have made a tidy sum from sales of Kari & Kuroiler chicken and egg to restaurants this year, not forgetting chick sales…, let’s see how it all pans out
somehow i’ve never believed this uganda egg theory…that a “grade” egg will be produced in the hinterland of kampala, shipped to capital before reshipment to kenya and still be competitive in NBO…OK, i know the farmers’ lobby would like to extract some concessions from GoK but unless the so-called UG eggs are produced in a fully automated battery farm that also manufactures its own feeds from its own raw materials then i don’t see how a ugandan egg can be more expensive in a dandora kiosk…
But it’s still profitable, I decided not to rely on eggs as their price is very unpredictable and laying rates are also not very consistent .I have 2 main income streams, sale of chicken reared in the farm for 4 months and sale of chicks to farmers mainly in Northern Tz where I have good links with farmers organizations, I have no problem offloading the small number of eggs that remain to shops and markets locally
It all boils down to feeding costs which can even be 80% of tatal costs… I managed to control this by producing my own feed. I source for raw materials such as sunflower cake and dagaa from Tz.
