Today I used public means to work having left my jalopy at work yesterday evening.
So I boarded this Kahawa wendani nganya.Fare was 80 bob .Nikapeana 100 and thus was expecting change ya 20bob
So I ask for my change using sheng ile najua.
Me:Hey boss bado nipa change yangu.
Ikanga:Change ya mangapi buda?
Me:bluuuee kaka brasa
Ikanga : smiles and I hear a few passengers giggle from behind
Ikanga (again)
Ikanga:Ati change ya ngapi?
Me:blueee (Showing him two fingers)…nilikupea soo moja
Passenger : Bluee ni mbao…anataka change ya mbao…blue ilikuwa noti fulani ya 20bob na iliisha na Obako
Ikanga:Ahhh si angesema hivyo…hiyo lugha sisi hapana tambua .
Me:Sawa dondoa hapo ngara …
Ikanga:Wazi mzae…lakini ile ya kaka brasa ilikuwa sawa, unaweza endelea kuitumia tunairadar
I alight and leave other passengers all smiley, even those who alight together with me want to like start a conversation but deep in my mind am asking myself.Kwani nimekuwa fossil.Have the Githurai sheng I used to know become obsolete.
Ningetaja kitu kama Ashu,Ashara ,kapa, jirongo kumbe hatungeelewana na huyu kijana
What are other old skool shengs that you feel these born 90s will hear and be like : what the heck do you mean?
I have never been able to speak sheng all my life. Where i come from, you would go to high school and the first sentence in swahili people would tell your home area.
