I actually run a business so I know we’re in the maisha mbaya part of siasa.. and I disagree with the saying that Kenyans are poor. We just have insane income inequality, which distorts wealth perception.
Take today for example.. I buy 1,500/- worth of items at a small kiosk in my village. Those people with their 10 bobs and kuandika kitabu stuff will think I flew in from majuu, yet 1,500 is what I used to spend on a bag of weed in the city. It’s not that I’m richer, I’m just used to spending 1,500.
In short, Kenya is wealthy but chronic mismanagement has made people genuinely believe they live in a poor country.

Don’t you think it is utterly preposterous to read so much into global statistics before even understanding personal statistics? There are several hooves eaters wenye hata yesu akarudi kuwa rais, they will still continue eating hooves. Reason being wasee hawana mbio ya kujituma. Why would an able bodied young man agree to be paid 200 bob to attend political rallies na hajakatia ng’ombe yake thaara?

It is preposterous. But how else can you get the real picture on the ground? Things are very skewed in Kenya when it comes to income/wealth disparity.. the shamba boy akikata nyasi he gets 20 bob, but if he goes to see some politician rapping into a microphone he gets 200 bob. That’s 10x more money for not working.
Have you ever seen such an insane system?

The politician won’t rap daily but the mofos somehow think the 200 is better than the consistent 20 Bob from kukata thaara. Again, if you factor in logistics, they don’t really get the 200. Noma Sana.

It’s the wasted productivity in terms of man hours. 5,000 people listening to the same politician rapping nonsense can waste 10,000 to 15,000 hours between them. That’s a lot of time wasted doing nothing.
