Ruto is a firm believer in neoliberaliam. Neoliberalism is a market organisation theory which advocates for privatization, deregulation, globalization, free trade, monetarism, austerity, and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society. Specifically, it calls for reduced government investment in public goods. The private sector is expected to fill that void. What does this mean for Kenya? Most of subsidies will be removed (austerity), social welfare programa will be done away with (pesa kwa wazee nje), higher taxes, and increased use of public private partnerships in the mold of the express way. More parastals will be privatised as Ruto recently hinted. By the time Ruto leaves, all aspects of the economy will be controlled by the private sector. What about parastatals that will be financially depressed? Western cooperations will buy them. On the whole, neoliberalism seeks to serve Western interests. Life will get very difficult
What is the alternative neo conservatism ?
Sio Ruto ana believe hivo, ni vile ame ambiwa na hao western interests.
Ruto advocated for this long before he was elected
If you listen to his suggested MO on handling govt functions esp where the govt is expected to trade, his position has always been that govt should be limited to provision of an enabling environment.
