If you’ve been watching what’s been happening with former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his long, grueling time in court… you’ve seen a guy who’s totally broken, messed up, and clearly beaten.
It’s hard not to feel a bit bad for him, seeing someone who used to be so influential and powerful now just trying to get through court with tired eyes and a worn-out look.
Obado’s story is a spooky reminder that being powerful doesn’t last forever. And all the bad stuff we do when we’re in charge… all the times we get away with things… it all comes back to us in the end.
Today, his life is nothing like it used to be… back when he was in charge of Migori County, untouchable, with lots of money and influence. Now, he’s trapped by all the problems he caused when he was in office.
First, he got charged with murder… the awful killing of Sharon Otieno, a pregnant university student. Obado is now on trial for that murder. 42 witnesses some of who were his friends are lined up to sell him up for the gallows. In court, they call it testifying.
Then came the charges for corruption… over Ksh.73 million he supposedly stole through companies connected to his kids and wife.
And just recently, the final hit: the EACC is going to auction his property worth Ksh.428 million… including his homes, land, and luxury cars on the 23rd of this month. What he used to show off as his wealth is now being sold, piece by piece. 
Obado becomes another warning story… a story about power, and how it disappears.
A guy whose name used to get everyone’s attention, whose presence made people whisper and clap… now he’s met with people being rude and disgusted.
His story is about how you only matter when you have a fancy title. When it’s gone, the magic breaks.
