‘Not My King’ - In UK, Thousands Protest Against The Monarchy. Protesters Are Demanding An Elected Head Of State, Say The Royal Family Has No Place In A Modern Constitutional Democracy And Is Staggeringly Expensive To Maintain
LONDON — Just a mile away from London’s Westminster Abbey where King Charles III is preparing to be crowned, thousands of his subjects protested against the monarchy — and at least seven people were detained by police.

“A significant police operation is underway in central London,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement Saturday. “The individuals have been held on suspicion of breaching the peace.”

Among those reportedly detained was Graham Smith, leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic, during protests at London’s Trafalgar Square. London’s Metropolitan Police would not confirm his detention but images on Twitter showed Smith being led to a police van. Ahead of his detention Smith told The Washington Post in an interview that for many Britons, Queen Elizabeth II “was the monarchy and the monarchy was the queen.” But Charles, he added, “hasn’t inherited any of that” — and his accession to the throne could mark a turning point for the anti-monarchy movement.

“Things are changing already,” Smith said. “People are no longer worried about criticizing, challenging and speaking up about being a republican.”

King Charles has faced many protesters at his public engagements. Hecklers disrupted public events organized for the proclamation of his accession to the throne and last year he had eggs thrown at him not once but twice, in York and in Luton. Polls show king Charles is less popular than this mother or even his sister, Princess Anne, his eldest son, Prince William, or daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales. His wife Camilla is even less popular — many Britons blame her for breaking up Charles’s previous marriage with the widely beloved Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997
kwani wako na choice? io ni kelele tu wanapiga

Watu wamechoka na Parasites

God save the King.

After watching ile series inaitwa the crown, I agree with them, this monarchy thing doesn’t have a place in the modern world, it was probably good UpTo 19th century. Let people elect their leaders, it can’t be that one family is ordained to rule a country for centuries

Hata mimi he is not my king

Then you have idiotic African leaders trooping there like brainless monkeys…and you wonder why the British have never apologised for colonial atrocities…

Does kenya have a good story of electing leaders (goons, thieves, kleptos, psychopaths, murderers)?

The timing is impeccable—the world is about to witness another coronation of Christ, The King of ALL Kings!

Server lasima ifunguliwe…jose carmago amezidi.

Usipochunga utapeleka kondoo zako shakahola wewe very soon.

Am sure our president was singing “God save the King” at the top of his lungs, hoping atarushiwa kakitu by his white bosses.

But at least Kenyans got a chance of electing a different goon every 5 or 10 years, meaning sovereignty remains with the ordinary mwananchi , unlike in the UK where citizens got no option but be contented with fact of being led with head of states from only one family for centuries

King/ Queen is ceremonial. Prime minister is everything. We should have that system in Kenya juu sahii Ruto angekuwa back bencher for underperformance. See how Lizz Truss was made Prime minister in October 2022 but messed the economy hadi 1GBP ikashuka to KShs 127. Akatolewa in 70 days and the new muhindi PM and his economic policies has improved the pound sahii 1GBP is Kshs 172.

Maybe… But debatable.
Tayari Kenyans have been expressing the dissatisfaction of being led by two communities since independence(60 years), in spite of them being the majority and democratically electing their leaders

We obviously wouldn’t have survived the monarchy kind of leadership, which case in example have been leading the UK since 1600s

Nyinyi kama citizens wa hapa vumbistan, a hell of a shithole but a beautiful one at that; your opinions on the matter doesn’t really count. I mean you can express it but it doesn’t count still. Pale Canada tuko nyuma ya the mornachy hadi mwisho. We fuckin’ love our royals … and our opinion counts. Ni hayo tu kwa sasa …

hata hapa Kayole kuna NGO ilitulipa tuka protest for camera juu ya hio story

The UK royalty give color and seemingly relevance to UK on the world stage especially post cold war. Without it, the miserable isles will be gray and unmemorable like Austria or Hungary. Think of hundreds of Arab royalty who have invested billions of £s in UK because they feel at home with the British royalty.

Qatar has also since invested in Heathrow Airport, Canary Wharf, Barclays, Sainsbury’s and Harrods. Additionally, the Qatar British Business Forum, established in 1992, is a membership organization with over 500 British companies based in Qatar.
Saudi Arabia leads Middle East buyers of prime property in central London, which reached a four-year high for the region in the second half of 2022, according to the global property firm Knight Frank.

Middle East buyers made up 10.9% of all property transactions in London’s most in-demand postal codes, which hasn’t been comprised of a higher proportion since 2015, reported the consultancy.

The region ranks third, only falling behind the European and United Kingdom buyers.
