Most middle class neighborhoods in Nairobi resorted to private garbage collection a long time ago.

For example, if you go to Buruburu today, you will rarely find huge mountains of garbage uncollected all over the place. Private garbage collectors make collections every week and provide you with garbage bags for that purpose for about Ksh. 300 per month.

A majority of households in Nairobi can afford Ksh. 300 per month which is slightly more than a single packet of unga.

I think garbage collection across the city should be fully privatized.

The county government’s role should be to build a garbage sorting plant and an incinerator at the main Dandora dumpsite that can generate power to sell back to the national electricity grid.

True, but Riverside Drive in Nairobi, an upmarket area that takes cleanliness seriously, is still inundated by litter on the sidewalks. Left by those that daily trek through the area from Ongwaro to Westlands CBD and back.
Savannah and Greenfields were very clean… Then stall erectors and hawkers from Oyole and other areas descended on the estate. Donholm Mums’ FB page is full of lamentations on this menace.

Hata Herbivores, both wild & domesticated hukubariki ukitupa farm fresh byproducts where they can easily access when it is still fresh & of course far from human habitat.

Lakini utapata some crews wanatupa polythenes and other inorganic irritants anywhere. Mimi nikishuhudia, I usually pick it, turn it inside out then throw it inside their cool vehicle. Wakizusha nazusha until heshima idumu.

Come on people, garbage and littering is an IQ issue.
What you are seeing there is not really an indication of failure of NMS but an indictment of the low level of intelligence by Nairobians.
High IQ people would have organized themselves wanunue incinerators authorities wawapate mbele. If impossible, they’d have organized demos and takataka ingechukuliwa.
Let me repeat, high IQ people cannot live with filth.

High IQ people do not live with garbage .Not in Kenya, not anywhere in the world where public services do not exist .Hio angle ya taxes ni mambo yako .

Penalize careless Garbage dumping heavily. John Gakuo went away years ago, but everyone still knows up to today that throwing garbage on Kenyatta Avenue or smoking in public will not end up well for you. During Gakuo days, people used to get 4-6 month jail terms for sitting on flower beds

I disagree, they pay for the services. And they do not have the capacity to collect and discard garbage from a market.

The average Kenyan doesn’t care about bins. Strathmore School has placed bins strategically along Mbabane Rd. Kenyans still littering even there, 10 feet away from a bin. I recently insulted one such litterbug. Replied rudely to my polite query. He got shocked by the words that followed.
