If you measure cooking oil with a tablespoon it will go a long way. I can’t even remember the last time I bought cooking oil. Anyway, cooking oil is what makes people fat so it will be good if we stop using it in the longterm.

Another issue is animal feeds. Our farmers should be able to rear poultry, pigs etc using locally available materials without imports. Poutry, pig, dairy Farmers in cointries such as the US Canada etc actually grow all inputs eg corn, soya, sunflower, silage hay etc in their farms and harvest and mix to feed their animals. But Kenyan farmers and feed makers have to import maize, soya, cotton seed etc from
Mexico, US etc to make animal feeds making the cost of inputs very expensive.

Traditionally central kenya is the brain child of animal husbandry; they set the standards the rest copy. Unfortunately land is scarce there making their options abit unachievable especially in dairy farming where one cow needs an acre of grown maize for silage. Its not a walk in the park.

However, there’s a new Crop of farmers that are borrowing a leaf from your model. They buy genetics from central, few weeks old calf to a month, rear it and harden it with local grown feeds such sweet potato vines, sunflower, Lucerne and corn totally different from what is offered in Githunguri/Kinangop which is very high maintenance relying majorly on cereal dairy meal…

Why didn’t our forefathers suffer frequent heartbreaks yet they ate animal based fat. My grandapa used to store meat in a pot for upto to 3 months.

This is very true but only possible when the cost of farming materials is down ie seeds , fertilizers,spraying chemicals and machineries.

So do excess calories. 1 tablespoon of cooking oil = 120 calories. It is very difficult to not exceed your 2000 daily calorie intake when you eat fried foods like chips and deep fried chicken.
