Nimetoka FB naona bado watu wanateta about Artcaffe due to their waiter’s discriminatory tendencies… Naskia uko mkiingia the same time na mzungu he/she will be served first or faster than wewe nyeuthi… Hehe izo story za uptown mimi uziskia tu uku mtaani Mama Otis hanaga discrimination labda akuzoe wewe ni mtu wa kukuja na pesa kubwa i.e 1000 na change haipatikanagi haraka apo napo discrimination utapata… Sisi watu wa coins will be served first wewe wa k tukuache apo…
Nimesoma izo post na those who took part are outraged waah, you could see in the tone of their comments… Kwanza unajua venye watu wa uptown wanakuaga sensitive na have this sense of entitlement yaani ao ndo kusema…
What we’ve not heard is the other side of the story; the waiter’s side… I’m sure they have their reasons and some of them may seem ‘valid’ if we choose to be independent of either side…
Firstly, Africans don’t have the habit of tipping, the idea is just catching up in the recent past… Compared to Caucasians we rank pretty badly in leaving tips…
Secondly, we don’t tip well…Some of these tourists leave up to a tip of 100 usd that’s is a whole 10k bana in one sitting… With the salaries the waiters earn and the pressure the management of these high end estabishments give them to maintain their look (hair, nails etc) tips like these are very welcome… Mwafrika akitip sana sio more than a K, wait, what? Actually not more than 500… Ata kama ni mimi ntakimbilia mzungu my prospects are better there…
Thirdly, people of uptown huwezi waambia… You enter a restaurant, the waiter ushers you in politely then proceeds to show you a place for you to seat… Heee!! Wewe ndo uyo na drama!! ‘I know where to sit young lady,’ ndo zako… How many times have you seen these type of people create unnecessary scenes in malls… Mtu ameshika pesa juzi haez tulia
SI HAWA MA WANNABE WAWACHANE NA HIYO ART CAFFE KWANZA WAO HUENDA HUKO KUPIGA CHAKULA PICHA PAMOJA NA MASELFIE SIO SABABU YA HOSPITALITY KWA HIVYO KAMA WAITER HAWAJAWANYANG’ANYA CAMERA WATULIZE KENDE NA WANYAMAZE AMA WAKUJE ARIZONA FISH AND CHICKEN HAPO OPPOSITE BATIS NA WAPONYOKE NA MALAYA BAADAYA CHIDWE. WACHA PIA MIMI NITUMIE HASHTAGS
now thats arrogance imagine going to a high end establishment then umekaa hapo you aint getting served unajifanyia kila kitu you go order your on food unajipelekea kwa meza unaenda kujiosha mikono…ukimaliza unajitolea viombo kwa meza then unaendea drnks na unajifungulia and maybe uko on a date…i bet you’ll feel great huh??
anyway i respect the waiting staffs alot when i was young my mum used to depend on tips she got for my initial upbringing
nowadays if she’s out eating she must tip even if she’s not the one footing the bill
back in the day kuna siku tulienda kukula place and my father akalipa bill na akachukua change yote …mathe alijam na kumpasha hapohapo ata
karibu ampige akimkemea ati amesahau kama si tips life yao ya kulea ingekua hell ati maybe the waiter has a little ‘m245’ anastruggle kulea n all na you cant even appriciate her efforts of serving you
i picked up that habbit sitadanya i tip alot no ikienda sana ni 200 na ikipungua ni 100 iv been there and trust me getting tipped is one hell of a good feeling
Why tip a waiter whose work was only serving me? It’s like thanking a flight attendant for a smooth flight . I’ll only tip if I spot a tip collection box so that at the end of the day the tips are shared with the cooks who did most of the work.
If I feel that I was given good attention then I must tip. I used to tip regularly at my favorite restaurant hadi wakanizoea wakaanza kunipea service mbaya and still expecting a tip. Hapo ndio niliwacha
I was once a waiter and it feels good to get a tip. Waiters hulipwa pesa nane compared to other members of staff and their work is a lot more tedious than it looks and shifts of 9 and 10hours with only one off day. Tip ya 100 sio mbaya
