the seven day week was invented by sumerians and adopted by all succeeding cultures on the eurasian landmass (not sure what went on other continents). the number seven arises from the days it takes to move from one phase of the moon to the other. Africans picked this up from these other cultures.
here is how is naming in kenya using the two official languages is done
Swahili order of day // name in Kiswahili // Englishorder of day // English name and god after whom the day is dedicated
first // jumamosi // first // Sunday (god personifying the sun giver of life)
second // jumapili // second // Monday (god personifying the moon associated with nature)
third // jumatatu // third // Ttuesday (Tiu saxon god of war)
fourth // jumanne // ourth // Wednesday (woden most senior of saxon gods)
fifth // jumatano // fifth // Thursday (Thor saxon god of thunder son of Woden)
sixth // alhamisi (arabic) // fifth // Friday (Freya saxon goddes of beauty wife of Woden)
seventh // ijumaa (arabic) // sixth // Saturday (Saturn Roman god of time = greek titan kronos)
Two problems here.
Now you see that two fvcking OFFICIAL LANGUAGES in Kenya do not fvcking agree on the order of the days. The first day of the week is monday for Kiswahili and Sunday using English.
English days of the week are dedicated to fvcking European gods. that is a fvcking BIG problem because it amplifies our colonial history. Dorobo’s suggested SOLUTION>
Through a national referendum Kenyans can come up with a Kenyan name of days of the week according to a defined order. eg first day can be Enkiday - after maasai god. Second day Asisday - after nandi god, etc.
You are wrong. For Kiswahili the first day is Saturday; Named Jumamosi.:(first day)
Hiyo ya Monday being first day ni ya wakikuyu;
Wambere- Monday
Wakeeri- Tuesday
Wagatatu- Wednesday
Wakana- Thursday
Gatano- Friday
Juuma-:Sato (hii sijui walitoa wapi)
Kiumia–’ 7th day or Sunday… (or the day that completes a week…a week in kuke is called Kiumia)
that is what i have indicated, only that it is not possible to tabulate the information so you did not see
and kikuyus mongols never had days of the week. Africans did not name days but had names for seasons. what you have posted are translations from what missionaries taught as names of days in catechism classes in 1890s. this added to confusion on order of days. this is because what you call kiumia or seventh day was an invention of missionaries to make it official that sunday is the sabbath of seventh day and avoid questions/debate with SDAs as to which is the real sabbath day. Do you see kuchezwa here?
Two sides of the same coin hizi debates za SDA , Christianity, Islam, Judaism all are slavers’ religions you have no business discussing them as an African
orodha // Kiswahili // order // English name and god after whom the day is dedicated

asante mod - dorobo has just seen the error in the statement below the table. the table also had some errors. will have to redo the table and delete the thread and start another with fewer errors. will also include african names as they are part of the disconnect. ask the admin to keep the edit option available abit longer than the few minutes available after a post.
