It’s not every day that a teenage girl becomes one of the most feared thieves in Nairobi. But Claire? She was not your average teenage girl.
Her real name was Claire Njoki Kibia, & she also had other names like Claire Njoki, Clea Adi Vybz, Clea Vybz.
Claire earned the title “Nairobi’s Prettiest Thug” around 2017, a nickname born from the sharp contrast between her striking beauty and her involvement in crime.
She was born around 1999 in Murang’a County and later moved to Kayole, Nairobi, to live with her mother.
From the word go, she gave signs of being a “bad girl.” For instance, she dropped out of Gikandu Secondary School while in Form 1 or Form 2 after incidents like fighting with other students, stealing, and insulting teachers. After that, she fully settled in Nairobi’s Eastlands, where she slowly got pulled into street life.
At that time, Kayole had several criminal offshoots of gangs like the infamous Gaza Gang, known for robberies and violent crimes. Claire got sucked into Gaza’s world and quickly became a force to reckon with.
She wasn’t just a bystander. Reports claim she took active roles like engaging in actual robberies, recruiting other thieves, passing information, and carrying weapons like “kidungi” 
coz she was easy to slip past cops thanks to her looks…pretty privilege, huh?
Claire was also part of a group of young women in crime, often called “Warembo Sacco.” These were pretty girls used to lure men in clubs, who would end up getting mugged.
But in May 2017, her story came to a tragic end.
Police, who had been tracking the gang, confronted Claire and several others in Kayole. Claire and her friends decided, “kama mbaya mbaya”, and brandished miguu ya kuku at the cops. Terrible mistake.
The cops returned the favor, and Claire didn’t survive the onslaught. She was still a teenager.
Claire was buried days later in Murang’a, in a quiet and tense ceremony, in a white coffin. Attendance was low, with many keeping away out of fear. Dozens of police, both uniformed and plainclothes, were present, watching to catch any of her colleagues who dared show up.
Today, Claire Njoki lies somewhere in Kambirwa Village, Murang’a. If I were to give her a movie character name, I’d call her Nairobi, like Agata Jimenez from Money Heist.
