If you pave everywhere and don’t provide channels for stormwater runoff to flow, you get floods. This is basic commonsense lakini imeshinda Nyairofi County Gafmend.

In 1870 when msungus arrived in nairobi they described it as an inhospitable mosquito infested swamp. That is why they moved to Uthiru and Chief Waiyaki gave them land to build a station in the well drained leafy area that they called Fort Smith. The nairobi swamp also belonged to waiyaki where his people used to graze certain times of the year. The msungus later built a railway at nairobi because it was flat unlike uthiru. So nairobi has always been a swamp and water never forgets its path even after 1000yrs.

Siri ya hili jiji ni avoid living in the official Nairobi county (with the exception of leafy suburbs). Kiambu county has the best natural drainage in the larger Nairobi area. Hutawahi ona watu wako Thika/Juja/Ruiru/Kikuyu/Limuru complaining about flooding juu wako on the correct side of the city. That’s why land is more expensive in Kiambu county than in Kajiado county despite being the same distance from Nairobi CBD. Kiambu county is upstream and places like Kitengela and Nairobi (Eastlands) are downstream kwenye uchafu na vumbi yote iko.

I said it mkasema niko jaba. There can never be an escape for anyone from bad governance and mismanagement. The ongoing mediocrity will somehow get at everyone regardless. Helicopters will fall from the sky, emergency medical services will go to the dogs na kila mtu ataogelewa ama kunywa sewage

It’s just neglegence. Where I grew up in Nairobi kulikua na proper drainage. It never flooded. It’s ridiculously easy to build a drainage system. All you need are ditches and a slope. 5cm slope for every 100m and a 2m X 2m ditch will drain a whole street. Hii ata engineer is not needed. A few vijana and some bags of cement, Ugali kubwa, I can drain the whole of Nairobi street by street in 6 months. There will never be a flood again. Ever.

You can’t change the nature of an entire population. You might not be negligent at a personal level, but when everyone else is, your values don’t make a difference. What you are proposing is akin to saying that you should live in an unsafe neighborhood because you are not a criminal and expecting people in that area to change.

I know that a drainage can be improved. But its smarter to move than to wait for improvement which might never happen with the idiots at city hall.

You’re quite good at explaining kagege behaviours. Huku Leseru flooding tunajua ni ya Noah’s ark.

I used to live along Mbagathi way, then Old Donholm. I have never experienced flooding at this level, although the Nara court side used to get crazy waterlogged due to the stalled roadworks by Babu Owino. I can’t imagine what that place looks like now..

If there was drainage to be blocked then it would just be unblocked and the water would flow. When there is no drainage juu contractors walikula pesa after developing roads and estates on reparian lands, it floods.
