Those of you who were old enough during the last el nino rains may recall the havoc wreaked by what many called the “Nairobi fly”. The proper name for this insect is a Nairobi eye; i hear so-named because of the injury it afflicts near the eyes. One just dropped on my table and I think it could be that season again.
this nasty dudu (pictured below) is capable of leaving a nasty lesion if you squelch it on your skin. The faces and neck are particularly vulnerable because they fall onto the bed after you switch off the light to sleep and will crawl to uncovered parts where you are likely to wipe off them or smother them as you turn. They squirt a burning liquid that will leave you wounded.

Symptomatic management. Often, no medication is required at all. Just keep the area clean and dry. However, if it’s anywhere near the ears or eyes, see the relevant clinicians ASAP.
