2NK driver is paid 300 per trip from Nyeri to Nairobi.
NK Sacco Under Fire for Exploiting Drivers with Low Wages and No Rest
Drivers within a well-known matatu Sacco operating in Nyeri have raised serious concerns about their working conditions, citing issues such as unreasonably low pay, inadequate accommodations and harsh treatment by management.
According to accounts from those within the Sacco, drivers face extreme fatigue, are often forced to sleep in their vehicles due to a lack of proper resting facilities and are penalized for expressing their opinions, sometimes leading to long suspensions.
The drivers, some of whom work long hours between major towns like Nyeri and Nairobi, describe their seats as makeshift beds, leaving them exhausted and physically drained.
“Hi Nyakundi. There’s this famous matatu Sacco in Nyeri 2NK that oppresses their drivers, and I want to share the things the drivers undergo so that you can expose them. The Sacco pays drivers peanuts 300 from Nyeri to Nairobi, and from Nakuru to Nairobi. Their drivers sleep in the vehicles because there’s no accommodation provided, and to make matters worse, the drivers’ opinions are treated as arrogance, and the drivers are suspended for months, while the Sacco doesn’t want to relieve the drivers’ badge. Can you visit the area around Tea Room, Thika, Nakuru stages at night? All the drivers’ seats are bent because they serve as the driver’s bed. The drivers are fatigued, tired, oppressed, broke, and sick.”
Lanye huwa stupid, kwanza wakiwa na bustard they never invest, kazi ni kutombwa buy luxury goods, move into a bigger house thinking business will be booming 24/7, akisota endpoint huwa depression and alcohol
Hapo ulipata lanye iko desperate ukibuy pombe utatomba hadi utosheke
The treatment of drivers in this Sacco is absolutely unacceptable. Paying a mere 300 shillings per trip, expecting drivers to sleep in their vehicles, and penalizing them for voicing their concerns shows a complete disregard for human dignity and labor rights. Fatigued drivers on our roads also pose significant safety risks to passengers and other road users.
Transport companies must uphold basic standards of fair wages, adequate rest, and respectful treatment. Exploiting hardworking individuals while putting lives at risk is an issue that demands immediate attention from labor authorities and the Ministry of Transport. The Sacco should be held accountable, and reforms should be introduced to ensure fair treatment and safe working conditions for all drivers.
This is not just a workers’ issue; it is a community issue that requires collective action to advocate for justice and equity.
Malaya wa kulipisha 3k don’t necessarily make more money from prostitution juu there are fewer men willing to pay that kind of money.
At the end of the day malaya lazima afanye hesabu whether to charge 500 to 75 customers in a month, 1000 to 30 customers, or 3000 to 5 customers.
Kwa hivyo usifikirie hoes charging 3k make a lot of money juu by default they have very few clients. Hiyo approach hufavor dame ako na another source of income so hiyo extra 15k monthly ni ya kutop-up tuu her regular income e.g hawa madame wa salons. Basically, it favors part-timers and works best online.
Not really. If we’re talking full time lanyes, there are very few of those. Part time lanyes who only sell when the deal is too good to refuse? Those are many
Wewe na @Electronics4u Mnasema kwenu Kangosho mtalipa kadere 300 and expect that matatu van you’ve invested in will survive 2 years on the road without proper suspension overhaul? Anyway hata Mashru, ile trailer company naskia wanalia sana. Drivers just walk out in the middle of the journey never to be heard from again.
Juzi kadere fulani alikuwa anakimbiza gari vibaya sana between Nyahururu and Nakuru n[quote=“Josto_Bwaku, post:13, topic:530415, full:true”]

Maybe Kwa Diesel, wanakulia kiasi, na parcels if they’re lucky to find someone who prefers to send the driver rather than the office. @Sanchez11 rushia Mimi number ya shiney
parcel…zile unapeana dere not kwa ofis. Anakula hio 200/- per parcel.
Small letters, keys, cheques. Especially where receiver atapokea kando ya barabara.
Not always, gari ikiwa full, unless someone alights along the way. But 300 is too little. I thought most are paid 500 a trip, and 200 ya kulala incase gari hairudi home base
