Yenyewe how do grown-ass people believe in a loving God who’s nevertheless gonna roast you because you failed to show your love?
I questioned that narrative when I was 10, and paid for it dearly through endless whipping. The whipping just made me more mad - I was being whipped, after all, for failing to show love to God, but why was he allowing me to get whipped in the first palce? (twisted, I know).
And I was 10.

i was baptised in the indepent church (AIPCA). then this season came when wazees carried rungus to church. then i spotted the pastor fasten a njora under his priestly robes when i was 14. i did not see the love of god in him and that was the turning point in my then religious life…
i next and last sat in a congregation three years ago when gauging the mood in order to devise a redemption plan for a philandering pastor whose credibility was being severely tested by rumours after he was kutiliwod in a choir member’s house…
