Devil’s advocate. If purchasing power is low how are employers able to pay employees then? Entrepreneurship should always be encouraged because it then leads to more employers and better shape for the society and economy. But kila mtu akitaka Kuwa employed this only increases competition and increases poverty. Huyo jamaa ako na point but ameiword na matusi. Na pia wewe you don’t make sense there’s low purchasing power so entrepreneurs won’t have a good business climate yet your employers are able to survive. The best part for me being employed is really not the pay cheque every month,because I have side hustles.

For me it’s
1.health insurance for me and my family 1 million inpatient and 200 key outpatient
2.dental 50k
3.eye 50k
4.pension which I contribute half and my employer half.
5.stability in terms of bills, I don’t need to worry if my hustles don’t fetch as much, but I know Nita Lipa rent, Nita fuel ndai ,fee etc

So hustle zita complement fiti

am just saying self-employment in our current climate is better than full employment. Large companies are too inefficient and government are too corrupt for employment to thrive. Watu wengi wa mindoroclass hudai wanalipwa over 300K but they rarely receive the full amount kwa account. Story ni ngoja ngoja

Wako safarini siku moja watafika kuwa employers. Problem is there are many legitimate biz/fields to venture into but the current situation in Kenya is not conducive. Deals are for the selected few and in most cases those doing shady biz na ma cartel

Mujamaa, depends on what your self employment entails …you can never expect mutura seller kama @Big fire kununua miwani za 23k alaf zidondoke kwa supu. Hapo atakuwa ameharibu budget sana. What am saying is unless it’s a big or unique biz, one will struggle alot paying the bills. Whatever you make as profit ndo itakuwa ya stock + kusos kwa keja

During Kibaki time , I would have supported entrepreneurship over employment…but right now things are very different…to get ksh 100k monthly from business is very tricky. Uhuru has fucked up economy with senseless taxation in every sector.
You need a huge capital (over 10M) to beat this harsh economy when in business.Not everyone can get that amount of money

Ujinga ulioje kusema eti kuajiriwa ni utumwa and that Being in Business is Bliss. We can’t all fit on one side. You Employers need Employees to make the profits and they need you to get a salary and pay their bills! Wherever we r whatever we do, we just need give it our all…thats what feeds us whether u call it Salary or Profit…remember also, there are people struggling on both sides of the divide.
