Motivational Talks

I get to the office and find a letter inviting me and my colleagues to attend a motivational talk by some Naija guy. I think motivational talks are really shitty just some guy on a stage telling “You can do it…” and telling you stories about Steve Jobs, Aliko Dangote etc some which I really doubt their veracity. Oh, and you have paid something like 30k for such. I don’t have a problem with people telling their story, in fact I like it. But tell your story to teach, someone might learn a thing or two from you, but fuck do not call it motivational talk!!! And do not ask for money!!! Will have a talk with them just to hear what they think of motivational talks.

I lump these guys together with waganga kutoka sumbawanga, kanyari & co, herbal clinics…

some are not so bad…i have liked them for the comic relief…

A 30,000kshs comic relief? Is there a study on the effects of those talks on overall employee performance, not just that slight bump that will happen for a few days after such

Motivational speakers, prosperity preachers, waganga kutoka zanzibar… same thing.

sorry, didn’t add when someone else is paying for it…

These guys are bogus, but then again the one idea that they all seem to pander when they advice you on how to dress, talk and act is the “Fake it until you make it” mantra. I agree with it and have seen it work for some people who needed some psyching up to get on their feet. The thing I hate about them is how they act as if they came up with it themselves and hence charge exorbitant fees for the bullshit.

Hizi na ‘business lunch with high flyers’ ni upuzi. The guys will show up because you all paid 5k for a plate. You’ll exchange cards but that’s as far as it will go. Atarudi kupiga madeal na mabeste wake jioni kwa bar.

And they walk around in expensive suits, phones and tablets talking about how they came from nothing and giving very general business principles that can apply to all fields and that are really common sense, fuck everyone has to start somewhere to get to point B. Does Atul Shah go around talking about Nakumatt in the circles, have heard him only once @kijanamrefu but there are guys who this is their hussle at the end of the day business is about relations and trust that work for you hii ingine nikaopportunity hustla ameona to make a quick buck for just talking
