i only do consultancies on specific projects so am not a big authority on the retainers for full time jobs. though i do know someone working on one of the SCADA system for honeywell’s oil and gas division and he is doing pretty well. you should also factor in some of the other associated costs such as getting sensible housing in a good place. all in all i cant say its bad, the only downside is the racial and class segregation, had a very annoying case where i was once driven in a different car from one of my colleagues (make/model everything), we were even put up in two different hotels and i took a lot of complaining from me to correct that (didn’t understand how they wanted us to brainstorm on the project when staying in two different locations). also be ready to learn Arabic quickly, you can be in a meeting and all of a sudden they go off in Arabic for ages

That place is a desert so if u have been into Mombasa expect worse.
There are no recreational facilities esp for Africans pombe ni expe bei mwenda and definetly no nyap u will have to learn to embrace team Kawasaki all thru

All I can say is it will greatly depend on who your employer is and what extras you have as your employment package. Eg some employers provide accomodation and transport for their employees (btw accomodation ni noma unless mnaishi majamaa kadhaa and you share the rent), so you end up saving alot on the rent.

Vile najua hakuna tax (equivalent ya PAYE) inakatwa kwa income yangu though sometime back there was some rumour that soon tutaanza kulipa ushuru hapa. As at now bado chapa ni tax free
