It’s amusing that there’s a long standing anti-middle class sentiment in Kenyan society. You always hear or read variants of snide remarks about loans or QoL or whatever. There’s a conflation of what a middle class person is and what a rich person is. It’s as if Kenyans miss definitions. And btw these social classes are cultural, i.e I can give you money right now but since your upbringing and thoughts are from poverty you’ll still act like a poorfag. Haha it’s kind of the way Indians see castes.
It just speaks to the nature of Kenya’s neo-feudal society where you have a handful of rich people (5% of households as per KNBS data) and the masses of poor people (70% of households) who are also either rural dwellers or culturally rural since were raised there beyond their childhood years (12 years).
Middle Class people are the true upholders of civilized society institutions. They also support progressive ideas since their world view is based on pursuit of material and cultural progress for themselves and their children.
Rich people. Majority of them are worthless inexperienced trust fund babies who simply inherited daddies or mommies money. They are out of touch but are positioned in critical places in society. The few rich people who made it themselves are sociopaths because that is the number 1 skill you need to be rich without inheritance. The rich are conservatives because they benefit from the prevailing state of society. They don’t want it to change.
Poor people. They are trapped in matters of day to day sustenance. This makes them inherently against abstract ideas of any kind, which by definition makes them conservative. They too don’t like change. I always hear people wonder why the poor people in Kenya take KES 500 from politicians and still vote for them. It’s because to them that is the natural order of things. If you try to introduce abstract thinking to poor people they’ll call you pretentious and shun you. You don’t need to look far. Just track how Kenyans always say stuff like “haileti ugali kwa Sahani” or “what’s your solution?” (They don’t want to think).
the middle class started the french revolution which historians estimate that tens of thousands of people were killed through executions and other violence.
they brought the Nazi party and Adolf Hitler to power which started second world war.
the middle class created bolshevism, Marxism, communism , shitty ‘‘Modern art’’ , pop music , Constructivism, Stalinist architecture, and Brutalist architecture.
compare the artworks of overrated modern artists like Vincent van Gogh, pablo picasso & andy warhol with Renaissance/classical artists like like leonardo da vinci, titian, Botticelli , bernini who were funded by the catholic church and the nobility before the middle class revolution
As opposed to the never changing feudal society or palace economy where a few are rich and everyone else is poor. The middle class is why you have liberal institution based society.
The French Revolution was brought by the inconsiderate monarchy.
Nazism was fueled by the mistakes of the Versailles treaty.
Communism and it’s variants were brought by the greed of industrialists - they not only had people working in factories 24/7 but you remember they forced people from farms to work in factories. It’s the same way Africans were forced into colonial economy via hut tax.
Pop music is an outcome of technology
It’s usually coz they want plug and play stuff to fit into their practical life unencumbered by abstract ideas. Kenya’s infatuation with Singapore is case in point. Even someone with 2 brain cells can see you can’t just transplant what happened there here - Singapore for instance has always been an entrepot. It also has no rural population and issues for example.
I hate how these people have also infiltrated the media so we have no platform to foster thinking.
Yeah a minority middle class. Good societies have vast middle class segment, something only a handful African countries like Tunisia and South Africa have.
France were the winner of the first world war. The became complacent. They were a military superpower. After they lost against the NAZI in 6 weeks. Their invincibility was shattered. They never recovered. When the second world war ended Vietnam sensed blood and attacked them in Dien Bien Phu. The french lost in Indo-Pacific. They returned home with the tails between their legs.
The parasitic banker middle class doesn’t care about the common folk, atleast the nobility were tied to the land and had a vested interest in the stability of state and welfare of the peasants working the land.
this is what happens when you give middleclass shopkeepers power, they may be ‘rich’ but they still have that middleclass primitive consumption mentality
No. France was always scared of unified Germany because it had bigger population and more industrial potential. France always wanted central Europe to remain as tiny splintered German states. Last time France was a “winner” was concert of Europe, the world order before WW1.
